MOST children's entertainers are content making a living trudging from one suburban backyard party to another.
But the backyard for Port Melbourne's Melanie Michaels is about to get far bigger than she ever imagined.
Michaels will entertain hundreds of children as part of Easter celebrations at the White House in Washington, DC.
An event held on the White House lawn each year since 1878, the Easter Egg Roll is an old and treasured tradition in US presidential history.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my magic at such a prestigious event," Michaels said.
"It has been a goal for the past two years and to have achieved it is an amazing feeling."
Having worked with some of the top children's entertainers throughout the US, the 32-year-old is one of just eight magicians invited - and the first from Australia.
Presidents and their families have long enjoyed the White House's largest public celebration.
Michaels, as Fairy Twinkletoes, entertains thousands of children a year with magic and puppetry at hospitals, parties and schools.
